Q: How to recreate "offset 3d text mapped fly-through"?

Howdy, I've used FCP for a year now but I'm totally new to Motion. There's an effect that I need to reproduce that's in the 2d/3d text demo movie:

http://images.apple.com/media/us/mac/motion-5/2015/tour/3d-titles/motion5-3d-tit les-cc-us-20150414_r848-9dwc.mov

(the exact effect starts at 0:33 seconds in, the race track scene)

I'm not sure what the effect is called so I'm having a hard time searching for tutorials. I found a tutorial for making text move along with video along a horizontal axis, but nothing like that race scene. Can someone tell me what the effect is called? Or even better, any links to tutorials on how to do that?

(I have a video of a flyby of a bridge and I need to map the name of the city to the bridge as it flies by..)

Thanks!

Try EZ Track 3D (currently free):

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AiSf1g52BM

    (watch the video for tips.)

This title is meant to be used as a template in FCPX (install it as a Title). To use it in Motion, select the Project "layer" and use the published parameters. You will also have to import your video — use it in the Title Background drop zone, but DO NOT SAVE IT because Motion will save the video you imported with the project. It would be better to import the video as a separate layer (in the same group as the Title Background drop zone and just above it in the Layers List.)

For a similar track (as used in the linked video), you'll want to move the Anchor Point out to the right (X Anchor Point parameter), align the starting point. You can automate the movement to the ending point provided the pan is smooth enough, otherwise, keyframe the movement with the Anchor, Position and Rotation parameters. To use automation, set the playhead at the beginning of the animation, set up the effect, move the playhead to the end and manipulate the positional/rotational controls (labels end in "/sec") to the ending position (or vice versa - start at the end and work backwards if you're starting "offscreen".) You can visually edit the effect in "real time" by setting the loop play feature in FCPX with the title selected (type '/' [forward slash] to loop the selected clip[s]), and manipulate the animation parameters.

To customize the text, go into the Text Inspector and make alterations there.

the title of this 'In Under 5 Min' from Mark Spencer is unrestrained overexaggerated,

    https://youtu.be/T3-dh1tW9i0?list=PLj5Nh9NxSxdlJrabzcJlpVtzG6n18D5Cn

advice summarized in two words: Set Keyframes

If the cams movement is as 'linear' as in the examples, it's quiet easy to set an In and Out Keyframe, using the on-screen controls of a 3D title, and you'e done.

fox_m's plug-in for sure makes it easier to set an off-set anchor-point (very nice idea with the ⚓︎-icon, fox) .....

    and thanks for sharing!!

Thanks for the help! I'll give both of these a shot.
