Jan 27, 2016 6:43 AM in response to Derek Erbby f23creative,Derek's fix is the one that works! No malware or anything else people are suggesting. No need to login as guest/safemode, delete cache, history etc etc. It's a clearly a glitch in the MacOS search/spotlight part of Safari. Weird it's happened to many people on the same day. Hopefully there will be an update to fix the safari issue properly soon.

Jan 27, 2016 8:28 AM in response to harpua23by mike1jen2,I agree... just this morning when I wasn't doing anything different than I do every morning, I couldn't type in a URL. Disabling the safari suggestions worked for me as well, but my question, what does that do when it is disabled?

Jan 27, 2016 9:57 AM in response to harpua23by marjanzek,Just go off a chat with Apple Support and they provided the following which resolved my issue.
To resolve this let’s Click Safari in the top left of the Mac and then > Preferences > Search, turn off search engine suggestions, safari suggestions, quick website search, and Preload Top Hit, then Quit and re-open Safari.
Thanks,
