I understand that you are being prompted to enter payment information for a credit card that you no longer use to verify your account while updating an app. If you do not use this card and do not want to add a different card to your account, you can select the option “None” and continue without a credit card.
The following article explains how to initially set up an iTunes account without a credit card, which I know is not your situation, but it does illustrate the “None” option you can use as a reference.
If you do not see the “None” option, the following article explains a few different reasons you may not see it and gives information on how to resolve it.

Jan 28, 2016 6:58 AMby Mr Sir J,I read that article before posting here, and I did find that I had a Youtube Red subscription and canceled it. The card was a visa gift card and had no more money on it, and the trial renewed for a month, so will I have to pay that off with a gift card or other card? I still do not see a none option. Very strange.
