You could instead set up family sharing, with each person having a unique Apple ID. Then you could tell who did what. Right now, you cannot tell. (You can only learn the date and time an app was "purchased" (whether free or not)).

Which do you think it is? Is the downloaded app something your kids would be embarrassed to admit to?
If you believe your account was compromised, change your password immediately and check for other activity you don't recognize.
