how do i delete photos from my iPad without them deleting from my mac?

    That depends on how you are managing your photos. If you are using iCloud Photo Library on the iPad and the Mac, any action that you perform on one device is reflected on the other device. So if you delete a photo on the iPad, it is deleted from the Mac as well - unless you download your photos from iCloud to the Mac before you delete them on the iPad.

    IF you are using iPhoto on the Mac and you have already imported the photos to the Mac, you can delete any photos on the iPad that you want to delete and that has no bearing on the photos that are stored on the Mac.
