In the unlikely event that something does go wrong, it is always a good idea to have a backup. For some great ideas that include using Time Machine and other available backup options:

Jan 29, 2016 7:22 AM in response to Grandad Rogerby Duane,Just an FYI, my 2007 iMac is doing great with El Capitan. So the fact that your iMac is a 2010 has probably nothing to do with the performance of El Capitan.
