Q: Photos app not connecting to photos library

This morning I was working with the Photos app on my MacBook Pro when my computer shut down and restarted.

When it came back up and I opened Photos there were no photos. Just a page saying "Welcome to Photos."  Using Finder I can find the Photos Library which is over 550GB. But, when I click on it Photos opens and it's empty and says "Welcome to Photos."

Photos may be opening a new, empty library, because it cannot open your main library.

Where is your  550GB Photos library stored?  Is it on an external drive, if yes, how is the drive connected and how is the drive formatted?

After a crash it may be necessary to repair your Photos Library. Select the Photos Library , hold down the key combination ⌥ ⌘ , while double-clicking the Photos Library.  select "Repair".
