Q: Battery questions and general questions for MacBook Pro Retina 13-Inch (2015)

I have just purchased a MacBook Pro Retina (100% Brand new) as my first Mac product and I love it! I want to keep this notebook for as long as I can especially for the price I payed for it. Battery is my number one concern and I want to keep the battery health as healthy as possible.

On a day to day basis, I regularly type documents, browse the web, watch YouTube, movies, and videos, and non-intensive gaming like Flash games.

Here are my questions:

If you accidentally unplug the charger and plug it back right away, will that count as a charge cycle? What defines one cycle?

Is it healthy to use your notebook while it is charging?

What are some tips to keep the battery lasting longer for general use?

What are some tips to maintain battery health?

Why is it important to calibrate the notebook battery every once in awhile? How do I do it?

What are common things that decrease battery health and how can I prevent them?

What applications are useful in monitoring and maintaining battery health?

What are your thoughts on getting a battery replacement for Apple notebooks?

What are your personal recommendations on overall making the notebook last as long as possible?

Thank you very much for the help!

Modern Macbook batteries need not be calibrated.

You can use your Mac while being charged.

I use coconut Battery app, but not necessary.

    Best.

These articles should answer most of your questions:

Do not calibrate the MBP battery.  That is not needed.

System Information>Power will provide all the information that you need to monitor the battery.  Also the OSX will notify you of any battery problems.

Apple is the best source for battery replacement.

I have two golden rules regarding Apple batteries:

If you use your MBP principally under AC, at least once per month disconnect the charger ans use it under battery power to about the 40% charge level before reconnecting.  Lithium ion batteries like to be periodically exercised for long useful life.

Do not allow the batter to be fully discharged.  That will shorten the useful life of the battery.

    Ciao.
