Oct 2, 2015 6:59 AM in response to Weisiang96by Deskal,If anyone wants to make all their Apple music available OFFLINE on their computer; select "My Music" tab; then from "Edit" dropdown "Select All"; then right click anywhere in the selected text and chose "Make Available Offline". This downloads all your songs from the Cloud.

Oct 21, 2015 3:27 PM in response to Deskalby Huettinger,This is exactly what you need to do...worked perfectly. The only downside is that I had to delete and re-sync my music - not a huge deal since I'm just setting up my new phone now, but it would have been nice to know before I sat through the first 15-minute (and useless) sync.
Thanks for the info! I read this thread while waiting for Apple support to help over the phone...they told me I'd have to do it song by song.

Nov 6, 2015 1:07 AM in response to Deskalby Diabulos,Tried this but upon selecting merge all it did is duplicate my playlists, and add a duplicate on the cloud as well.

Nov 6, 2015 2:07 AM in response to ma77hew.su11ivanby Diabulos,This does not really solve the issue. First, you would have to select everything you want in that playlist, which may not be everything you have on your library, this would be a tedious and boring job, duplicating probably years of curated playlists.
Secondly, you cannot, of course, add to the smart playlist by dragging and dropping or by clicking add to playlist, so you are limited to whatever choice you set which may not include a new item you may have added as it would not have been part of the original criteria (a new artists, a new album, etc)
Trying to just make a playlist offline seems to be ignored by my iPod Touch 6th gen, no amount of sync between itunes and the iPod moves the songs, if iCloud music is turned on on the device, it appears to ignore iTunes changes when it comes to music and wired connection.
Creating a new playlist and dragging the contents of one of my old playlists to it (in case there is something dodgy with the old playlist, I don't know, this has gotten more and more mysterious with time) iTunes notifies me that it cannot make the new playlist icloud enabled because it has files types that are not allowed, I read this as it contains apple music songs as well (it only has music files)
If I create a new playlist, not a smart playlist, the option to make available offline is not there.
In short, it is a mess of inconsistencies to get your music offline, I am still trying 2 weeks after moving to an iPod Touch so I could use my Apple Music subscription. Downloading from the device via wifi is slow, chaotic and broken, with inconsistent download numbers, automatic non-user triggered downloads, inconsistent display of offline icon on songs and constant 'unable to download song at this time' message, a mess...Google Music looks like an inviting alternative, got it on one of my old android phones, just to see if it was an alternative, after uploading my music library (which is 15,000 files but Google swallowed it up in just under 3 hours) I was able to replicate some playlists (it even took the playlist information from itunes) and download a 2600 songs playlist in an hour. I have trying to download 257 files on my ipod touch for a week now! and I have a fiber connection with 100mbp.
Sad, it used to just work

Nov 24, 2015 3:05 PM in response to Weisiang96by Bareech,If you go into your music library, on your computer, and set it so that it is displaying songs (not albums, or genres, etc.) all you have to do is click the first song, then scroll down to the last, hold shif,t and at this point you should have all your songs highlighted. Now all you have to do is a secondary click on the highlighted songs and a menu will pop up adjacent to your cursor, there will be an option" make available offline".click it. Presto, you have dowloaded all your songs off iCloud and onto your computer, now you just have to sync with your iPhone and you're ready to go, hope this was helpful.

Nov 25, 2015 3:04 PM in response to qzcby KanuVesta,Oh dear Lord, thank you QZC!
Got everything I needed from you, in this labyrinth. Such a common question and a very simple answer you provided.
Exactly what is needed. I noticed a couple of child threads from your answer as well. Totally worked.

Dec 8, 2015 6:39 PM in response to Bareechby jakibros,Bless you Bareech! The highlighting was key to getting the right click "offline" choice available. Problem #1 now solved....onto problem #2 (getting my library onto my iPhone).

Dec 15, 2015 6:14 PM in response to Diabulosby DaterTheAndroid,Had the same problems with Apple Music since the start if the service. Just cancelled the renewal for good.
it was just one click to make all of my music available on spotify. The download of about 800 songs is nearly finished now. Only took about half hour.
Also my denon reciever supports spotify directly.
usually i had to start playing music on my iphone. It would then download the song via wifi. Then by airplay stream it to my stereo.
With spotify my iPhone just tells the denon reciever via spotify connect which song to play. Less battery drain on the iPhone. Less wifi electrosmog at home.
Only downside so far. My BMW doesnt support spotify directly. sigh...
this is not intended as advertisment for spotify. Just try both and make up your own mind.

Jan 29, 2016 6:05 AM in response to Dominarby geomy1,FINALLY!
Someone who understands my problem!
Why does Apple have to control everything? They say it is "helping" us, or it increases "ease of use".
Apple has become what they originally were fighting against-- a Goliath corporation controlling as much technology as possible.
Any Davids out there willing to go up against them?

Jan 30, 2016 8:55 AM in response to Weisiang96by geomy1,How to make your music available at all times
Here is a workaround for the above issue of Apple removing your music from your phone without asking, forcing you to redownload the music you own. All of your music will be available offline.
I am using OSX 10.11.1 and iTunes 12.3.2.35. I am not using Apple Music, iTunes Match or any such nonsense.
I am not a techie or a pro, just a guy who wants to be in charge of his data.
Use your good judgment if you do this.
It is a bit long but Apple is no longer in control of my music!
WARNING: You will be resetting your phone which erases all data -- be wise and do what you must to backup/protect your data.
- Back up any files you need outside of iTunes
- Shut off iCloud, cell data and WiFi on iPhone; shut off router (it can't hurt to put phone in airplane mode as well).
- In settings choose General>Reset>Erase all content and settings
- When phone resets skip entering Apple ID (I told the phone I don't have an Apple ID)
- immediately shut off cell phone data
- Start iTunes on your computer. Hit the musical note icon in upper Left. Check the boxes on songs you wish to have on phone
- Plug iPhone into computer -- DO NOT LET iTUNES SYNC ANYTHING!
- Click on the phone icon in upper left
- Select "Music" from the On My Device list on Lower Left, not from the top Settings list
- Click on "Edit Playlist" on the Right
- Drag individual checked songs to Music Playlist on right (you may be able to select your entire music library and drag it over. I have heard that only the checked songs will be added to the playlist but I am not positive).
- My version of iTunes immediately added the songs to my phone. You might have to click "Done" button and/or manually sync depending on your software.
- Check out your phone-- ALL THE MUSIC IS ACTUALLY RESIDING ON YOUR PHONE!
- Restore other files, settings and software.
I am hoping that I don't have to go through all of this each time I want to change up my music. We'll see.
