It's not necessary. Migration Assistant will let you move your files always that your old Mac is running OS X Snow Leopard or a later version, so OS X Mavericks is valid. See -> Move your content to a new Mac - Apple Support

Thanks, that is what I was hoping. Couldn't remember from my last upgrade. This saves me one headache.
