Q: iPad iMessages on new iPhone

My daughter has a ton of imessages on her iPad, and we're having problems moving her imessage history to her iphone.

From what i have read, it should be as easy as

1. backup iPad to icloud

2. restore ipad backup to a freshly reset iphone

however, opening up imessage after the restore, none of the previous imessages she has sent (with all the photos etc.) made it.

Can anyone help? Are there specific settings in icloud that i need to set? (i couldn't find any), also a backup/restore cycle is really time-consuming, any way to check if the icloud backup has imessages (i noticed that in the ipad storage, i have an entry for messaging and how much space it is taking, but on the icloud backup, i don't have an entry for messaging - is this a sign that the backup didn't take?)

thanks in advance for any help!

    Hey Jericho.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to transfer the iMessages from your daughter's iPad to her iPhone using a backup.

If you take a look at About backups in iCloud and iTunes - Apple Support, you'll see this part at the bottom of the article:

Data that won't transfer from one kind of device to another

When you restore a device from a backup of another kind of device, like using an iPad backup for an iPhone, certain types of data won't transfer:

    • Photos
    • Messages and attachments in Messages
    • Voice Memos
    • Apps that aren't compatible with the device you’re setting up (For example, apps compatible only with iPad won't be transferred to your iPhone.)

This is disappointing through - anyone know of any other way to do this? i looked on the web, and there are some apps claiming they can do this - but they all seem a little sketchy any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
