Q: Internal microphone doesn't appear to be working

On my 2015 12" Macbook running OS X El Capitan, the internal microphone isn't working. I have it selected as the input device in Settings, and volume set at maximum. When I use FaceTime or Skype, I can hear parties on the other end of a call clearly, but they can't hear me.

I've run Apple's Diagnostics program and it didn't find any errors. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Please open the Sound pane in System Preferences and select the Input tab. Select the input device you want (it should be highighted in the list) and move the Input volume slider all the way to the right.

Speak into the microphone. You shouldn't have to yell. Does the Input level meter react?

If not, and if there are any other input devices in the list, do they work? What are they?
