Q: After ios9 update my emails with attachments won't open and say "message not yet downloaded from server". They were there previously. How do I get them back?

All my email attachments are unopenableafter the ios9 upgrade. Anyone else with this issue?  How do I get them back?  The emails just say message not yet downloaded from server.

Sorry to be so late to this party. I have been watching this and other threads regarding mail in ios9.x I have not posted before as I had little to input that would help as I am quite new to iPhone's. I found that 9.2 fixed most problems I was experiencing, however I am still seeing that that "Trash resurrects all emails handled by the device". I hope this gets fixed in 9.3

Not so Appleworm58, as Lawrence summarised some time back Re: After ios9 update my emails with attachments won't open and say "message not yet downloaded from server". They were there previously. How do I get them back?, there are a large number of reports on this thread, saying that the problem was resolved with iOS 9.2.  Those with unresolved problems appear to have other issues seperate to the topic of this thread.  My experience of  this topic's problem ceased with 9.2.

However, having upgraded to 9.2.1, I have within 24 hours had two e-mails only (out of 20 odd received), give the "This message has not been downloaded from the server" with no option to choose downloading, just as before 9.2.  I'm running a number of pop3 and map accounts, but this is happening on one of my pop3 accounts.  Has anybody, like me, had the problem selectively recur since 9.2.1? If not, maybe, like Appleworm58, it's just me!

Several weeks after installing iOS9.2 I am not seeing any of the issues noted in the topic of this thread.  I have not yet installed the 9.2.1 update and would like to know if the issue you cited is continuing and whether anyone else is having problems after doing the 9.2.1 update.  Thanks.

Don't do it...don't go there, disconnect yourself from the internet, lock it in a drawer.

Not installed the 9.2.1 update, so can't say if it has brought back to life the original issue... "message not downloaded from server"

I'm still living with the issue..."Trash resurrects all emails handled by the device".... and have heard nothing from Apple Support guy, despite his assurances! However, I'm prepared to be open minded and positive and therefore assume he's been off sick for last 4 weeks.

II've been having this problem  for two months now. I am currently on version 9.2.1 and the problem still exists. I have asked my provider shaw.ca about this and have been provided options. ACTIVESYNC does not work. Other options suggested mean I loose syncing on contacts and calendar, which I'm unwilling to accept. I've deleted my account and re-added it, to no avail. Clearly this is somethping Apple has caused with IOS 9.2 and has not yet corrected. Come on Apple!!

    Donn

Clearly this is somethping (sic) Apple has caused with IOS 9.2 and has not yet corrected.

    Wondatt,

No, this is not the case. As the responses earlier in this thread demonstrate, for the vast majority of people, the problem was fixed by Apple in 9.2, not caused by it. The problem definitely existed with 9.1.

What's new is that the exact same error message started reappearing for those of us who didn't have problems after 9.2 when we installed 9.2.1. However, by my judgement, it occurs more intermittently compared to 9.1. I'd recommend against installing 9.2.1 for those of you who haven't done it yet.

    Ruadh2,

I have posted in this thread about my problems and have a case open with Apple Care that appears to be ignored.  Yes, most of the time I am not getting that message but then out of the blue it happens, primarily if I move an item to trash so I don't do that unless I really mean to trash it!

So for me the problem has not been completely resolved but I have been able to live with it.  I am, however, extremely disappointed in Apple Care.  Wouldn't you know that this is one of those times I didn't get a survey where I could vent my frustration.  Very poor for just ignoring my case....  Probably afraid to tell me that they can't fix it.

Since you have an open case you might try calling AppleCare and ask to have that elevated to a senior level advisor, or better yet a supervisor.  It may be to no avail but there's certainly no downside.  I've been faring ok since installing 9.2 but am holding off on the 9.2.1 update until there is more feedback available since that iteration seems to have recreated problems for some users.

@carolinseattle. My experience also.. I'm still awaiting a promised callback from my Senior Advisor from 21st December, who was awaiting feedback from the assigned tech team. My guess was that I wouldn't get the callback because they hadn't fixed it.

As you said..."Very poor for just ignoring my case". If just ignoring customers is the example set by "Senior Advisors" then I feel for the people further down the ladder.

9.2 is as far as I go, until such time that further updates are proven... that's is... as least until Apple decide they are going to install updates anyway!

My case IS being handled by a senior advisor and she was the one not responding.  I did send another email on Monday afternoon stating rhat I hadnt heard from her in over a month.  I asked if this was not a solvable problem.  She responded to me at the end of her shift saying that she was happy that I had "reached out" and she said she had gotten an email back from engineering and wanted to talk to me.  She was not a available until kater in the week.  I sent her two more examples of items in trash that either claimed they were not download (they were already)  or had the incorrectly formatted statement that is corrected if I move it back to the inbox.  I think the latter could be connected with the other issue.

Since I am going to be traveling, I asked her what it was she needed to talk to me about as it wouldn't be convenient later this week.  If I get a chance, I will call her.

One other odd thing that happened to me recently is that I had added my husband's POP email account to my ipad and when I was later making massive deletes of  his email I someone found lots of really old trashed email from last November popping up on his account.  Never happned on my accounts.  I am wondering if it is using the trash all feature.  Sounds like the problem of  thetinytiger

    @carolinseattle,

"when I was later making massive deletes of  his email I someone found lots of really old trashed email from last November popping up on his account.  Never happned on my accounts.  I am wondering if it is using the trash all feature."

This does indeed sound similar to the behaviour I described, except that the emails "resurrected" by using the Trash All / Delete All feature, are only emails that have been previously handled by the device. Therefore, if you are seeing emails "resurrected" that haven't previously been handled by the device, I suggest you have another issue. Sorry, it wasn't clear to me from your post.

    1) Are your email accounts also POP? If so it's strange that you haven't seen the same behaviour on your accounts.

    2) Does "Trash / Trash All" always read that or is it like mine and sometimes read... "Delete / Delete All"?!

Good luck with your Apple Support call.

I guess it was the delete all once in trash though I had trashed all for quite a few when I was inactivating his account on the ipad.  Yes all are POP accounts and it was only the emails opened on the IPad for his account since last November.  Don't think it was all the emails but a lot.
