Q: How do I delete my photos in iCloud photo library?

I placed my entire photo library -- some 40 GB into iCloud photo library.  Everything seems to work quite well.  I keep Originals on my Mac.  I have noticed that the optimized versions on my iPhone and iPad are starting to produce a memory crunch on the latter two.  What I would like to do is delete my iCloud Photo library and start over with a subset of my main library -- just the last five years worth of pictures which are about 10GB.  How do I accomplish this?

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

    Make sure all of hour original photos are on your mac and turn iCloud Photo Library off on all devices - it will delete all photos from iCLoud in 30 days - then set the smaller library as the system library and turn on ICPL and the new smaller library will be uploaded to ICPL

    Thank You!  One more question if I may.

    Using iCloud Photo Library can I keep my originals on my main computer (iMac) and also keep the same originals on my laptop at the same time?  I've not been successful with the latter, while optimized pictures appear on iPhone and iPad.

    Yes - each device has its own selection as to storing originals - they will always be in iCloud and if you select to have them on a device they will be on all devices with that selection - if you select optimized photos you may not have the full sized originals
