Q: Not all login pages have login details auto filled.

Hi,

Safari is only auto filling login details for some web sites.

I have AutoFill enabled on my iPad mini (with the latest iOS), and iPad (with an older iOS).  On both devices when I visit a web page with a log in, it asks me if I would like to save the password which I can then see in the Safari settings saved correctly.  When I update a password it also asks me if I would like to update it and saves  it correctly.  When I return to a login page, Safari is only auto filling the details for some websites, whilst others that have saved login details are left blank.  Other browsers such as Chrome auto fill the login details for websites that Safari is not.  Is there a reason that Safari only completes login details for some websites? Is there any way to ensure that it auto fills in details for your own website?

Thank you

    Hi purplefairy11,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

From your post, I understand that Safari on your iPad is not autofilling your account name and password on some websites. To begin troubleshooting this situation, I would recommend working through the instructions from the following article.

If Safari isn't automatically filling in account names and passwords on some websites

    iOS 7.1.1 or later:

    1. Tap Settings > Safari > Passwords & AutoFill and make sure that Names and Passwords is on.
    2. Press the Home button and open Safari. If Safari is black or dark instead of white or gray, turn off Private Browsing. Safari doesn't save account names and passwords when Private Browsing is on.

    Hi,

    Thank you for your reply.

I have confirmed all of the setting are correct.  And they work for some sites for example Facebook, when I uses facebook in Safari it remembers my account name and password and auto fills the values.  The problem is it does not do this for all sites, for other sites I can see that the password has been saved when I look in settings > safari > passwords but the values for account/username and password are not auto filled when I revisit the web sites.  Is there any way to get Safari to auto fill for all sites? Is there a reason why Safari would auto fill on some sites but not on others even though the details are successfully saved in settings > safari > passwords?

    Thank you

    Kind Regards

    Hi purplefairy11,

Thank you for replying with this information. Because you are still unable to activate FaceTime after working through the steps in the previous article, I would suggest contacting Apple Support directly. Contacting AppleCare will allow us to look further into this specific situation which will allow us to help you resolve the issue.

This change came about 2 versions of the iOS ago. Safari fills in the user name and password on some sites but not others. Try tapping in the text entry area to bring up the on screen keyboard. At the top of the keyboard tap on Autofill passwords. That usually fills in the missing info and allow me to sign in.

    Hi Ralph,

Thank you for your reply.  I don't seem to have an autofill password option on the keyboard, is this an option that needs turning on somewhere?

    Thanks
