Q: Keyboard overlay for FCP X?

I have a third-party keyboard from about 2005 (EZKeyboard Advantage Series) with color-coded FCP shortcuts on the keys.

I use it with my 2009 PowerMac tower now.   I have decided to buy a late 2014 27" iMac with FCPX.  Can I use this old FCP keyboard,

or will I need to buy a new FCP keyboard overlay, to be used with the keyboard that comes with the new iMac?

Thanks a lot for your help on this.  - Rob

I assume this is a USB keyboard, and as such I can't imagine why it would fail to work.

You just may need to make some mental adjustments/translations as not all keyboard shortcuts will be named the same, but it should be quite usable.

I like to repeat like a broken record:

you get the full potential of FCPX only by learning and using the keyboard shortcuts!

… and, without owning one, I dare to say, a FC/pro keyboard is of little use with FCPX....

In random order, what comes to mind first, and frequently in use here:

    • cmd-6 to open color-board? no such thing in FC/p afaik
    • shift-F to find source in Event-Browser? no such thing in FC/p
    • 1,2,3,4… to switch Multicam-angles? no such thing in FC/p
    • cmd-opt-arrow-down to overwrite in storyline? no such thing in FC/p
    • … tbc …

FCPX is packed of so many unique features, you miss most with an old list…

    just compare

    http://help.apple.com/finalcutpro/mac/10.2/?lang=en#/ver90ba5929

    with the features of FC/p....

I guess, you don't need an overlay for 'NLE generic shortcuts' such as J/K/L …

btw: just to mention, there are keyboards, overlays and stickers avail for 'new' FCPX; I have a post-it  attached to my monitor
