    Hi,

this is likely due to a slow internet connection. What is your upload speed ? (http://www.speedtest.net/)

Your Photos Library may contain items that cannot upload to iCloud Photo Library, because they are in an unsupported format or because they are corrupted. These items can prevent the successful upload, because Photos will try over and over again to upload the same items.

It is easier to deal with this problem, if you upgrade to Yosemite. Then you would be able to create a smart album "Photo is unable to upload to iCloud Photo Library" and could remove them.

Do you have high resolution TIFF files, PICT files, audio files, special video files in your library?

Icloud is not a backup - it is to synchronize your pictures on all your devices.

Apple recommends  you keep a backup at home --

as to speed - you are a salmon swimming upstream -- Broad band carriers are all about down load speeds not upload speeds.  The only speed your carrier can check is to their servers - once the request goes onward - it is subject to traffic jams etc.

Hi Léonie, thank you for taking your time. I was not aware of that feature in Photos. But I just found a small file i TIFF, the rest should be in "normal" JPEG, GIF  etc since those can be seen in Photo . My OS is El Capitan.

That is very slow - are you letting your computer go to sleep? Set it not to sleep and keep it on the internet overnight and see if it speeds up

I took ten days to upload 7000 photos on a much faster internet connection (roughly ten times as fast as yours)

For example the are advantages to  El Captain including new features and bug fixes - but upgrading will force you to quit and restart the process

And note that the progress is a bit wonky and does weird things but the upload is ok - in general the suggestions made to speed things up actually slow things down or even force a restart from the beginning - it is best to keep things awake and uploading and give it time

    Hi Larry

Yes it's slow, I stil not have fiber outside Stockholm, using ADSL... Anyhow I will try your tips about "not to sleep"! And close down other processes. So I will sleep this night...

    Thank you

Photos can handle TIFFS, but not all kinds of TIFFS.

You may want to check the bit depth of the photo. 8bit TIFFS are fine, but 12 bit or higher may cause the upload to hang.

    • Export the photo in question to your Desktop and open it in Preview.
    • Click the Tools menu, select "Show Inspector".
    • In the Inspector panel check the Depth in the "General" tab.

So, i've done all, closed all the programs. Changed the settings my iMac has been up for one night and all of the day. Result 600 photos (of 58 000). Those from my iPhone 6 have "arrived" to iCloud all right.

    Any new tips?

    Thnks a lot!!

Only have patience - or take it to a place with good internet for several days

You may want to consider getting PowerPhotos and starting over with a smaller library using PowerPhotos to add photos to it slowly as it gets up to date so you can do this in small bites

The Icloud is meant to synchronize between your mac devices - so if you are expecting a permanent backup - Apple support does say make sure you have a backup.
