Does the iPod still appear in iTunes when connected?

Yes, in fact I'm still rocking out to it. Itunes reads it and I can work the music menu from my laptop

Perhaps the LCD display has failed, although its backlight seems to be working.  You said you did a Reset already; you don't see the Apple logo?

I think your LCD has gone bad, although the rest of the iPod may be operational.  Depending on your specific iPod model (and where you live), Apple may no longer provide repair service your iPod.  This document has details

Vintage and obsolete products - Apple Support

However, you may find independent electronics repair businesses in your area with Apple expertise who can perform the repair (even if Apple does not), by doing an Internet search.

I have alot of purchased music on this

If it still appears in iTunes when connected, you can transfer songs purchased from iTunes Store to your iTunes library (if the songs do not already exist there), using the command from iTunes menu bar, File -> Devices -> Transfer Purchases from [name of iPod].  Alternately, you can download past purchases again from the iTunes Store Purchased screen.

Download your past purchases - Apple Support

If there are other songs on the iPod that are not already in your iTunes library on the computer, iTunes syncing is typically in one direction only, from iTunes library to iPod.  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer music," you should get some useful links.  Once the song files are on your computer's drive, add them to your iTunes library.

I sincerely appreciate your help. I'll probably get screwed out of my music for this- many of my purchases were made under an old Apple ID which I'm just finding out is another total debacle. Can't understand why Apple won't keep accounts together in 2016.

If you have more than one Apple ID because your email address changed, and that happens again, do not create another new Apple ID.  Instead, go here and manage your existing Apple ID to associated it with your new email address.

    https://appleid.apple.com/

You can also try using that web page, and Apple customer support, to reactive your old Apple ID.  You cannot merge your purchases into one Apple ID, but you can authorize your computer for more than one Apple ID at the same time.  Your Apple ID is what identifies you as a person to Apple.  If you use a different Apple ID, you are a different person to Apple.

The LCD is relatively cheap to have replaced by an independent repairer. If you do, make sure you find someone who has opened up plenty of them as they are one of the most difficult devices to open if you don't know the right way to do it.
