Q: When was my mac mini made serial number C0******1HV

Monday February 1st I purchased a mac mini at Jump plus in Kingston with 3 years Apple care.  It was built late 2014. Processor1.4 GHz Intel Core i5, memory 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3,  500 gb hard drive, graphics Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536 MB and serial number C0******1HV. It has OS X  Yosemite 10.10.5.

I would like to know when it was built, does it have soldered memory, it says there are 2 memory slots. When I bought it I was lead to believe that it could be upgraded to 8 or 16 gb later on. That was the only reason I bought that way. I have an old Macbook 2006 intel processor that this is replacing. Jump plus is offering to order me a new 1.4 GHz with 16 GB of memory. Would you let me know about the one I have.

Yes, the memory in 2014 models are soldered - no longer user upgradable (sadly).

I have two 2014 i5 2.6 Ghz minis, even on "about this Mac" - memory would show 4G x 2, on 2 slots - do not mean they are upgradable.

If you want more memory, you have to special order.

In the mean time, 1.4Ghz with 16GB memory would be the same price vs 2.6Ghz 8GB.

if 16G memory to be important to you, 2.6Ghz with 16G (special order) will cost $100 more than 1.4Ghz with 16G. ( in US).

    • How to identify Mac mini models - Apple Support

(the models with 'on-board' memory implies affixed permanently to logic board)

For specific build information you could try your luck with a Serial Number

Lookup Service. But, be forewarned: they may not be secure. I've tried this:

    https://www.powerbookmedic.com/identify-mac-serial.php

    The everymac.com site can provide technical specifications for almost all Macs;

another tool is an application from http://mactracker.ca aka MacTracker. This is

also available as an app; the full application may be best for computer users.

(Generally to not post serial numbers or any personal or property identification

in the online discussions is advised; also edit results if you add them to a post.)

    Good luck & happy computing!

This " Processor1.4 GHz Intel Core i5," means it is a late 2104 Mac Mini

    Yes, of that I'm aware.

The listed reference is for those who may wish to

look for hardware models that suit their purpose.

Specifications abound. Sorry if you were confused

or just wanted to flame me.
