Q: Connecting Macbook PRO to home theater for music production using Logic

Hi all,

i have a Macbook Pro i'm not sure of the model but it was bought late 2010 early 2011. i need to connect it to my 5.1 samsung home theater to produce music using Logic Pro. My home theater has a digital audio port. i will also be connecting my mac to my tv VIA an HDMI cable to use a large screen while producing music. will the HDMI cable transmit sound to the home theater if i have the tv connected to the home theater via digital audio and the mac connected to the tv via HDMI? if not what is the best option i have. all i need is to connect my mac to the tv for display and the home theater for sound.

Earlier MacBook Pros have a mini displayport output but that does not support audio
