Q: Bootcamp not booting after install rEFInd for dual boot

This is my 1st post on this site, hope I don't screw up.

I tried to install rEFInd boot manager and screwed up my Bootcamp so windows 8 will not boot. It does show up on boot holding the option key, but it does nothing but a black screen when selected. Same when selecting to boot from CD/DVD, black screen. I've read a few posts similar to this but he suggestions from "LonerT" did not fix my issue. I'm hoping LonerT or someone of his knowledge base is available to help me, I really don't want to reinstall window if it can be helped. :-)

Here's the information requested by LonerT in previous posts:

Ok, it's gone, checked both Disk0 & Disk1, it was installed on Disk0. Boot problems still remain. I also noticed that when I 'restart' from the Apple Logo (Top Left) the PC should just reboot to MAC OS with no intervention, but it doesn't. I have to hold down the options key to boot into OSX. Still can't boot to cd/dvd either.

Ok, but I just checked and now it's Disk1. Should it move around like that? If so, how do I know what disk it will be in recovery?

A reboot can change the disk numbering. Run diskutil list in Recovery Console -> Utilities -> Terminal and pick the correct disk.

DUDE, YOU DA MAN!!!! This fixed it, booted directly into Windows 8, no intervention, then booted into OSX with no intervention!

I just need to be sure the CD/DVD Drive works and I'm good to go!

    Thanks Loner T!

With Bootcamp already in place it is a pain. Can you install Ubuntu on an external disk?

Could install it on an external drive, then create an image on my network of that drive and then copy that image to the empty partition on the Mac?

    1. You already have Kodibuntu. Is it KODI?

    2. Your Bootcamp disk can be used to install Linux, since it has room for two more MBR entries, if required.

That's the partition I was going to install it in. It's called Kodibuntu, it's a very light version of Ubuntu with Kodi integrated into it. So I created that partition to instal the Kodibunto on to, it's what started this whole mess. I know I can put Kodi on the Mac or windows, but I was hoping I could do this and gain some performance from the MacMini.

Can you post the output of the following two commands for both disks?

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/diskN

    sudo fdisk /dev/diskN

Pick the N values for each of the disks.
