Q: iCloud Music Library??

I purchase all of my music from iTunes. no CD rips or imports...all iTunes based.

So when i have iCloud Music library disabled in iTunes and select 'Show iCloud Music Purchases' I can see all of my iTunes music purchases (iTunes in the cloud) and choose to download them or not.

When i enable iCloud Music Library all of them disappear and have no items.

How does this work?

would it not show my iTunes purchases by default?

or do i have to download all the music first – then iCloud Music Library will take it from there?

Do you subscribe to Apple Music or to iTunes Match?

Then iCloud Music Library is not something that you can use. As has been stated repeatedly - iCloud Music Library is for use with iTunes Match and Apple Music. It has no other application than for those two services. You should turn it off and use the Purchased tabs to obtain your music, and use the options outlined for displaying iCloud music (iTunes in the Cloud - not iCloud Music Library) on your Mac and your devices as previously provided.

The issues you are seeing are because you are trying to use a function of iCloud that simply does not apply to your configuration.

    Best of luck,

If you have the option to turn on iCloud Music Library, then you either have subscribed to Apple Music (or have enrolled in the 3-month trial), or you have subscribed to iTunes Match. If you have done neither, then the option to turn iCloud Music Library on or off is simply not displayed on the Music Settings screen at all:

    IMG_3086.jpg

As you can see by these two screen prints, I have the option to "Join Apple Music" or to "Subscribe to iTunes Match", but under Library there is no option to Turn on iCloud Music Library as shown in this support article:

Sync Apple Music across your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and computer - Apple Support

So, if you are seeing that option, then either the "Join Apple Music" option is not showing, or the "Subscribe to iTunes Match" option is not showing.

Whichever one is not showing informs us as to what your actual configuration is. Can you take a look at Settings>Music, and post back with either a screen shot of your Settings>Music screen, or the info about which one of those two options is not showing?

    Cheers,
