Q: my iPod has a red circle and x

my iPod has a red circle and red x. can't get past that window

iPod classic, don't know version or OS

The hard drive may be faulty.  You can try putting the iPod into Disk Mode

 

Putting iPod into Disk Mode - Apple Support

 

If it goes beyond that error screen and into Disk Mode, connect it to your computer running iTunes.  iTunes may prompt you to do a Restore with a message about "recovery."  If you're OK with the iPod being erased, tell iTunes to do the Restore. 

 

If the iPod does not go into Disk Mode, or if the Restore fails, the most likely cause is a faulty hard drive in iPod.
