Feb 5, 2016 9:05 PM in response to mdwfromnycby Loner T,After the Windows Support software downloads to the USB, disconnect it.
Use only the W7 DVD, and the last option - Install Windows. If you do not see your BC partition, do you instead see a Remove Windows choice in place of Install Windows?

Feb 5, 2016 9:40 PM in response to Loner Tby mdwfromnyc,I did not see a Remove Windows choice.
FYI: The Windows Support software is already downloaded to the thumb drive (USB). So to follow your instructions, I plugged the USB back in; then I loaded the Windows 7 CD. After the CD was on the desktop, I ejected the USB. Then, I rebooted into Windows and did the Install. There was no Bootcamp choice in the "where to install" window. Same as before.
Thanks for answering me so quickly.

Feb 6, 2016 4:44 AM in response to mdwfromnycby Loner T,1. What year/model is your Mac?
2. It is possible that BC Assistant failed to create the correct MBR/Partition? From OS Terminal, can you post the output of diskutil list command.

Feb 6, 2016 8:49 AM in response to mdwfromnycby Loner T,You should have only EFI, Macintosh HD,Recovery HD before you start Windows installation. You have too many partitions for this to work correctly. To make this work,
1. Merge the current disk0s2 and disk0s3 (Macintosh HD and HD2) using DU, or we can do it manually. The command in OS X Terminal will be
diskutil mergePartitions jhfs+ "Macintosh HD" disk0s2 disk0s3
2. Merge the current disk0s5 through disk0s7 into a single FAT partition.
diskutil eraseVolume jhfs+ BC1 disk0s5
diskutil eraseVolume jhfs+ BC2 disk0s6
diskutil eraseVolume jhfs+ BC3 disk0s7
diskutil mergePartitions jhfs+ BC disk0s5 disk0s7
diskutil eraseVolume fat32 BOOTCAMP disk0s5
3. Reboot and post the output of diskutil list for verification before you start Windows installation.

Feb 6, 2016 9:00 AM in response to Loner Tby mdwfromnyc,Thanks. When we switched to El Capitan, some programs that functioned under Snow Leopard did not work. So I created HD with the Snow Leopard system, in case I wanted to use the old programs. I am now going to move the contents of HD (Snow Leopard stuff) to an external hard drive. After I do that, I will follow your instructions. Hope this makes sense.

Feb 6, 2016 9:08 AM in response to mdwfromnycby Loner T,Yes, it would explain the current layout. You will still need to merge disk0s5 through disk0s7.

Feb 6, 2016 10:38 AM in response to Loner Tby mdwfromnyc,After I entered this line: diskutil mergePartitions jhfs+ "Macintosh HD" disk0s2 disk0s3
I received this error message.

Feb 6, 2016 10:56 AM in response to mdwfromnycby mdwfromnyc,After I received the error message above "Couldn't unmount disk..." I entered on the Terminal the rest of your merge commands. I then rebooted, pulled up Terminal, and asked for a diskutil list. This is now what it shows - includes the external hard drive stuff as well.
diskutil list
/dev/disk0 (internal, physical):
#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
0: GUID_partition_scheme *1.0 TB disk0
1: EFI EFI 209.7 MB disk0s1
2: Apple_HFS Macintosh HD 550.7 GB disk0s2

7: Apple_HFS BC3 133.2 MB disk0s7
/dev/disk1 (external, physical):

Feb 6, 2016 11:29 AM in response to mdwfromnycby mdwfromnyc,I unmounted disk HD throught disk utilities. Then I re-entered your first command. And I received this with a yes/no question:
diskutil mergePartitions jhfs+ "Macintosh HD" disk0s2 disk0s3
The chosen disk does not support resizing.
Do you wish to format instead? (y/N)
I guess I want HD to go away or merge with HD2, but I'm not sure about the "resizing vs. format" question.

Feb 6, 2016 12:05 PM in response to mdwfromnycby Loner T,1. Which of the two Macintosh HDs do you want to preserve? This will decide what needs to be merged into which volume.
2. In step, you have yet to run the last 2 commands.
3. You should do this in Internet Recovery.
4. Please disconnect all external disks.
-
Feb 6, 2016 12:48 PM in response to Loner Tby mdwfromnyc,I only want the HD2 to stay. I will run the last two commands. Does the question about resizing vs. format refer to HD or HD2? As I said, I want HD to go away and have only HD2 remain. If I answer Y to the question, will it "harm" or erase anything of HD2?

Feb 6, 2016 12:55 PM in response to mdwfromnycby mdwfromnyc,I ran the last two commands and disconnected the external disk. After rebooting, I input the diskutil list command and this is now what it shows:
diskutil list
/dev/disk0 (internal, physical):
#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
0: GUID_partition_scheme *1.0 TB disk0
1: EFI EFI 209.7 MB disk0s1
2: Apple_HFS Macintosh HD 550.7 GB disk0s2
3: Apple_HFS Macintosh HD 2 413.0 GB disk0s3
4: Apple_Boot Recovery HD 650.0 MB disk0s4
5: Microsoft Basic Data BOOTCAMP 35.4 GB disk0s5
