Q: dead macbook, model A1181

I have a 2007 macbook, model 1181, and it no longer powers up.  The power cable is good (tested on another macbook pro), and the battery is good.  I took it to Geek Squad and the agreed and stated it could not be fixed due to parts being discontinued.  Is there any way to salvage the data on the hard drive or is there a company out there that fixed dicontinued models?

Thanks!

You might look for the needed parts at iFixIt. But if you cannot find the needed parts, then you are out of luck. You can also look on eBay. And, you can search via Google for other sources.

Did they tell you what part was bad? If it was not the hard drive that failed ,you can remove it and put it in an external enclosure to retrieve the data.

The ifixit repair guides are good to look into possibilities; locate the right one.

    https://www.ifixit.com/Device/Mac_Laptop

PowerBookmedic.com has parts and says they repair stuff. Never tried them.

Another by name wegenermedia.com has repaired portable Macs for decades.

These likely have or can get nearly any parts. Some kinds of parts may still be

available from owc macsales.com, such as replacement drives, RAM, batteries.

Even the logic boards may be repaired. However the cost value may be exceeded

by some percentage if several things may need to be replaced, if unit were restored.

Other companies may actually quote a fair rate if they still work on vintage gear.

Those who specialize tend to repair computers for business, education, or other

and may be able to provide extensive service. Depends on what you want to do.

    Good luck in this matter!
