Feb 6, 2016 4:40 PM in response to raystine1948by Linc Davis,When you press and hold certain letter keys, a menu of accented versions of that letter (used in foreign languages) pops up so you can select one. To dismiss the menu, all you should have to do is keep typing. Does that not happen?

Feb 6, 2016 5:45 PM in response to Linc Davisby raystine1948,That's what it does, but when you keep typing, the normal letters don't appear, just a line of symbols that look like commas! To get the typing to continue, you have to turn off the computer and start over. Taking your finger off the key when the symbols you describe doesn't allow you to continue typing. It does it on both of our apple computers. Any suggestions ?

Feb 6, 2016 6:36 PM in response to raystine1948by Tom Gewecke,If you would like to turn off the accented characters popup menu (Character Picker), that can normally be done by opening the Terminal app and typing
defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool false
and then restart.
