Q: wireless mouse won't connect

Batteries in my apple wireless mouse died. After replacing with fresh batteries it will no longer connect. My computer recognizes the mouse, but won't connect. The mouse itself will make an attempt at connecting (little green led underneath) but it never sticks. Any ideas?

following other threads and support articles, I've come to the conclusion that my Bluetooth hardware is acting up. It indicates it is on in the status bar, but when I open the preferences the "on" check box is not shecked. As well, when I tried to turn it off, there is no change ... it will not turn off from the status bar. Very peculiar. On to the Bluetooth boards ....

found solution for connectivity regarding Magic Mouse and bluetooth.

    1) trash this file: com.apple.bluetooth.plist

    2) restart computer

    3) if device doesn't auto-connect, go into preferences and connect device.

    All works again.

Well, hopefully you've retained the USB mouse which came with your computer? If not I would suggest borrowing a neighbor's mouse, co-worker's, or one from work. That would be the simplest measure.

It would be helpful to know what files they are.

    1) Have you tried disconnecting the mouse and repairing it?

    2) have you tried restarting your computer?

    3) new batteries?

ok  sorry,   i found the file deleted it.  I restarted the macbookpro and still nothing.  I have new batteries so yes tried that.  I have tried to repair it.  I have done every thing.   And i took the mouse and the keyboard and tried to use it on my other imac and it connects just fine on the imac.  Just won't on the Macbookpro.  This is very weird.  I have deleted that file now 5 times and still nothing.

when i wrote the reply i was not in the Preferences area i was somewhere else.  I finally found how to get to the area you were talking about.  There were not instructions on where the file was located so i researched on line and finally found out how to get there.  Finder - Library - Preferences .

Sorry about that. I was able to use spotlight to find it the first go around. I will remember to be more specific on file destinations in the future.
    Regardless, does it work now?

For future reference, here is how to find such files using Spotlight:  http://www.macyourself.com/2009/08/26/search-for-plist-and-other-system-files-wi th-leopards-spotlight/

thanks.  It was weird i tried spotlight and it would not come up.  But i finally found it.

I still cannot connect this Mouse and Keyboard (Bluetooth) to my macbook pro.  It will connect to my imac .  And also my Macbook Pro Bluetooth is picking up the items it just won't connect to anything.  gives error message.

I have removed them from the list i have tried using no passwords to connect.  I have tried everythign even removing that File in Library/Pref area and still nothing.

I don't want to go and spend more money buying new products becuase these are working on other computers.  Does anyone know of anything else to try?  Can't call apple Support is OUT.

Deleting that plist worked for me too. (After some trouble finding it....then I doubleclicked on my harddrive icon, went to Library/Preferences. There it was.)

I have been having the same problem. I tried everything listed above but could not solve it until i remembered that this mouse had been paired with my old Macbook Pro (that was turned off by the way!). I went to the old computer then to bluetooth preferences and erase the mouse from there completely. When i came back to work on my new computer everything worked fine!! So make sure that the mouse is only paired with the computer you are working on! Let me know if it worked for you as well.
