Feb 9, 2016 6:08 AM in response to Maymayenteby gail from maine,It may be that the battery is dead, or that you have an issue with the cable you are trying to charge with. You may also have debris in the charging ports. Here's what you can try:
1. Try a different cable, and make sure that you are charging from an outlet - not from a computer
2. Clean out the connection point on the phone using a soft, clean toothbrush. Many posters have also reported that carefully using a wooden toothpick, and really making sure you have dug out all of the little corners is useful
3. If it still does not respond, take it to Apple to see if it needs a new battery - they could tell you in a heartbeat

Feb 9, 2016 6:17 AM in response to Maymayenteby Meg St._Clair,In addition to Gail's excellent advice, make sure you're leaving it on the charger for more than a couple of minutes. A battery that was completely discharged may take 15 or more minutes to get enough charge to turn back on.
For future reference, before storing anything with a lithium ion battery, make sure it's about 50% charged.
