Q: Duplicate Artist Folders

Hello, So I've bought songs from Itunes and I have also found some free download songs from an artist on the internet. When I try to put multiple songs onto in one "folder" (the artist name on the side and the songs inside). There will always be a few songs that will create another folder underneath the original one and I'm trying to just make its all in one "folder".  It's just really annoying and I like my Itunes Libary to be "organized". If someone had the same issue or if anyone knows how to fix it please let me know!

    Hi FrenchFry33,

I understand you are trying to keep your music organized on your Mac and you are trying to eliminate duplicate folders.  The iTunes application will do this for you if you have the settings enabled in iTunes Preferences > Advanced.  If you enable "copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" and "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" that will be the first step in getting organized.

Then, from within the iTunes library, you can Control Click on a song and choose "Get Info" from the contextual menu that appears.  Changing the artist's name or album in the appropriate fields will organize the music into the correct folders.

The following resources will explain more ...

Locate and organize your iTunes media files

    Using the new iTunes

    Get Info

To see more info about an item, select it and choose File > Get Info. Get Info has been completely redesigned in iTunes 12 to focus your attention only on what’s necessary for the selected item.

If you’d like to add a field that isn’t visible, click Add Field in the lower-left corner of the Get Info window. You can select additional fields and set fields you’d like to always show. In iTunes 12, Get Info opens on the Details tab, and information about the file can be found on the File tab.

    Cheers,

    Hi FrenchFry33,

Thanks for posting the screenshot.  Are the two individual songs above also included in the 49 songs above them?  If so, you should be able to delete them from the iTunes Library.  Checking for duplicates in iTunes would essentially do the same thing, but for your entire library.  (From the iTunes Library show View > Show Duplicate Items).  If these songs are not included in the albums, above, then you would have to delete and redownload or re-import them into the library.

    Download your past purchases

    Best,

Thanks for the quick reply... I just tried deleting them and then redownloading them but it did not work. Maybe there's a limit to it? I also deleted the song and then exited out of Itunes and then put it in the media folder but the same thing happend...
