If it still doesn't work, and the WD software is installed, remove the software according to the vendor's instructions—you don't need it. Otherwise, the drive has failed and must be replaced.

Feb 10, 2016 7:26 AM in response to Linc Davisby gabiG3,Thanks - had already done the 'disconnect' thing several times to no avail. There's no WD software in my application, so think you are right and a trip to the shops is the next step....(post darkened room lie-down!).
