"Everything that has occurred so far is within the terms of the warranty and the software license."

I'm pretty certain that it doesn't state anywhere in the warranty and software license that your phone will be rendered useless if you make a conscious decision to forgo your out of warranty replacement options.

It states that if you allow an unauthorized service to be performed on the device then you void all service & support from Apple, which includes access to the operating system.  That's a fancy way of saying that, technically, if you open up the iPhone without permission, then the operating system can be removed or shut down from the device, and that device will be labelled as ineligible for reinstallation of iOS.

You don't have a 'right' to use iOS.  You have a 'license'.  If you do anything that violates that license, then you can be barred from using that operating system.

(And actually, it could be interpreted that any user that violates that license can be barred from using iOS on any device at all.  Now, that would be pushing it too far in my opinion, but as written, Apple could refuse to allow any device using the same Apple ID to update the iOS.  Just a thought, don't freak out.  But it would be entertaining to see Apple push that point.)

Your iPhone isn't useless.  Just go install another operating system other than iOS on it.

So they have said themselves error 53 has nothing to do with "security". They have taken access to the operating system away due to an unauthorized repair (of an out of warranty device).

I can understand Apple not offering support in this instance, but to deal out a punishment such as this is a little ridiculous.

I Totally agree. I don't have this problem with my iphone, however when I read about it I thought that it is just WRONG on Apple's part to shut iPhones down with the Error 53 message. I own Apple everything (iPhone, iPad, iPod, Apple TV, Mac Book Pro), however I am thoroughly disgusted to read what Apple are doing to people with the flimsy excuse of 'security'. If this did happen to me I would be straight into the local Consumer Affairs office asking them to take action.

Do you enjoy being laughed at?

Your quote is unread to Error 53.  It's your post that's ridiculous.

My quote was taken from what user TJBUSMC1973 said earlier. We were discussing error 53.

What about my post is ridiculous? This is a view shared by a multitude of people. If you can back that claim up with something substantial it would be great! Change my mind on the subject please.

A multitude of people used to think the world was flat.  The number of people that hold an opinion has no bearing on it's validity or accuracy.

Well you've just proven that everything you say has no validity. Do you really think that175,000,000 people on this earth believe it is flat because there are 175,000,000 results on google. Probably ALL about how it was once considered to be the truth.

    You are hilarious!

I agree. I think you read my statement the wrong way.

Apple is like the church and state at the time of believing the earth was flat. The multitude of people I speak of are the heretics, explorers and scientists who are looking beyond their immediate environment. And using rational and reasoned thinking, are compiling the facts which clearly indicate that the earth is indeed not flat.

Maybe instead of focusing on semantics, perhaps you could provide me with an argument that supports Apples claim that Error 53 is solely about Security.
