Mac OS XInstalling iTunes installs the required drivers. Therefore, you should download the latest version of iTunes (if your Windows is Windows 7 or later) from here
and install it again. Your iTunes data is not effected, but it is always a good idea to back up your user data.
NOTE: If your current version of iTunes is an older version, you'll get iTunes 12.3.2.

Thank you for your prompt response Kenichi. The problem is not solved.
I have the latest iTunes 12.3.2
My PC does not recognise my ipod classic on my summary page or anywhere else. I have just completed the diagnostic test and it indicated I needed help. I do have a screen shot but I cannot cut and paste on here unfortunately??? When I clicked help nothing happened??
A further problem I have just notice is that I do not have IOS9.2.1 on the PC. Under IOS 9.2.1 is stated ' Connect this phone using a USB cable in order to update or restore software'
I have a mini ipad and the iPhone 6. I have IOS 9.2.1 on both.
My ipad and iPhone have been backed up today and yesterday. However with such problems will this have been an accurate backup?
My phone has been connected many many times by USB??? What has happened? Please advise as I need to be able to use my ipod.
Thank you for your assistance.

Mac OS XFor some reason, I did not get an email notice that you replied here. Sorry about the delay in responding...
A further problem I have just notice is that I do not have IOS9.2.1 on the PC.
iOS is only for your iOS devices (iPad and iPhone). Your PC does not need to have iOS; it runs Windows. As for updating iOS devices, the software package for each device is downloaded from Apple when you do an update using iTunes. You can also do updates on iOS devices from the device itself (looks like they are currently up-to-date with 9.2.1). That's the way I do updates on my iPod touch.

If you were able to connect your iPhone and iPad for backing up using iTunes, I don't think you had a problem with any missing drivers. The iPod (and only the iPod) is not connecting properly for some other reason. The iPhone and iPad are probably fine. What was the indication (or error message if any) that made you think "drivers" were missing for the iPod?
When you connect the iPod, watch the iPod's screen. Does it say "Do not disconnect" or give other indication that there is a connection? Or does it only show the battery charging symbol? Or does it not react at all to being connected?
