Q: Double click  speed for Apple Pay  on Apple Watch

I have been using Apple products for over 15 years now ,  as a person with disabilities I have found your accessibility over the years fantastic  when I first heard about Apple Pay and the ability to use Apple Pay on the Apple Watch it I was so excited .  It will make such a difference for me as I will not have to get my wallet or my phone out of my pocket I can  just tap my wrist .  I have poor coordination and use either a manual wheelchair or a powered wheelchair

I have just set up my cards on the watch .  But now realised I can't  and never will be able to use it as I cannot double-click to the speed required to activate my cards on the watch .  Please please  sort this  so people with disabilities can you use the Apple Pay on the Apple Watch which I am sure but one thing you wanted it for !

I want to start using this every time I visit London so please update and take note that people with disabilities cannot double-click to the same speed as people without disabilities

Someone please reply and let me know if this will be in the update

    Downstarj-

I just tried holding the digital crown and got Siri.  I then said "Open Apple Pay" and it opened up to my credit card.  Would that work for you?

Thank you that is a great interim solution ,  and I hadn't thought of doing that ,  I don't know why as I use Siri for everything !   The problem I could see happening is when I am in a busy or noisy place or somewhere without network Siri might not work .

Hopefully the problem will be addressed  in a update ,  like on the phone you can change the double click speed

Hopefully, Apple will be able to accommodate.

One thing I'd like to point out. Once you get Apple Pay up on the screen, you generally have to turn your wrist at what I find to be a rather awkward angle to tap the watch on the payment scanner. I hope that doesn't present a problem.

Just in case this would help. When I got my first Apple watch I could not, for the life of me, get the Apple Pay function to work. All I ever got was the Friends feature to appear. Finally I realized that the speed is not as important as in lifting your finger off the button at the end of the second press. I was leaving my finger on the button after having done the two presses and that apparently was being interpreted as a third press launching Friends. Ever since making sure to pull my finger off the button after the second press I haven't had a problem even with my "speed" varying a fair bit.

Siri is a good option if that doesn't help you but you're right that it should be easier. I even had tried launching the Passbook app to get to Apple Pay that way but that still requires a double press as well. In my opinion if you've already launched Passbook then only one press should be needed.

Thanks this helps a bit but i am still not fast enough every time with my second click.  It takes me about 10 goes to work once!

Whether I take my finger off the side botton or not, the double click brings up friends twice more often than Apple Pay. This is VERY frustrating. I hope Apple is aware and that a fix will be released for what seems to be a bug.

I don't believe it's a bug. When I first posted about my problems in getting Apple Pay to come up every response I got was that no one else was having an issue. That was when the watch first came out. I couldnt get it to work properly to save my life. I thought I was just spastic. All I could ever get was Friends to pop up.

As soon as I made sure that the screen was active and then doing the double click, pulling my finger off the button after the second push I almost always get Apple Pay launched. In the last 8 months or so I've only had Friends come up once or twice. It's not a bug, but they could change the software to allow just one push to activate it. I have found though that the screen must be active when you first push the button. If you do the double push when the screen is black the first push wakes the screen and the second one will just launch Friends.

    Hi Pat

For comparison / guidance purposes: in order to activate Apple Pay via the side button on Apple Watch, the double-click needs to be significantly quicker than the slower speeds at which a double-press on the iPhone's Home button can be used to display previews of all open apps.

It is not necessary to first wake the screen from sleep.

To familiarise yourself with the required speed, you can practice launching this screen on your watch at any time. To exit back to the Home screen, press the Digital Crown once.

    Hi All thanks for suggestions

This is not a bug- its a non accessible  bit of apple software that needs a tweak, like the phones when they added speed control to double click speed

I still have to use my phone for apple pay as watch i can't double click fast enough, i am disabled and just not fast enough

    PLEASE SORT APPLE!
