Q: not able to share pictures by e-mail as photos application freezes and I have to force quit - please help

Please help...

working with Photos on my MacBook Pro (El Captain) with no problems since the beginning suddenly I am not able to share my pictures by e-mail nor i-message.

I keep on trying for last 3 days with no success and each time have to use force quit function.

I have "repaired" my library couple of times already with no effect.

By the way I am working with one library only

Counting on your support...

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

What you see in Photos (and other photo apps) is a thumbnail of the real picture.

    Try this:

in Photos select the picture you want to email, then CTL+click on it and select "show in Finder". In Finder CTL+click the picture and select SHARE, then email.

    Hi Lex,

CTL and click on the picture doesn't give me "show in Finder" option

    So no solution unfortunately

    thanks,

    Oh yes it does:

CTL+click gives a little menu and the second entry in there is "Show referenced file in Finder" !!

I'm sure it does on your machine however in my case CTL + click gives the same menu as clicking with 2 fingers:

    " Get info

    Rotate clockwise etc.

    Misunderstanding:

my last post was about how to show SHOW IN FINDER, this is in Photos.app.

In Finder you do CTL+click (same as two finger click) and it shows SHARE also in the contextual menu.

Lex, that will only work, if the photos are referenced, but in Photos for Mac it is not possible to reveal managed photos in the Finder, that worked only in iPhoto.  It is a pity.

What happens, when you try to share the photos to Mail, maciekneug?

Is the Share option missing, or does it hang or crash?

If the share option for Mail is missing, see this support document:  If Share options or Markup is missing after upgrading to OS X Yosemite or El Capitan - Apple Support

Have you enabled the Share options in the System Preferences?

If you don't s see the expected Share and Markup features, go to Apple menu > System Preferences, click Extensions, and make sure that the Markup and sharing features are turned on in the Actions and Share Menu sections.

thanks for clarifying - just to make sure:

I chose the picture from my Photos library in Photo application, than CTL click on it and get the menu I wrote about

Trying to share the picture directly from finder doesn't open the window with mail and freezes the Finder and force me to "force relaunch" the finder

To share a photo from Photos use the Share button.  Have you tired it this way?

Select the photo in Photos, then click the Share button in the Toolbar. Select "Mail" or any of the other Share options from the menu:

Is your Photos Library syncing with iCloud?  Then you can share only photos that have been stored locally. To be sure, that the photo is available for sharing, click t to enlarge it and try to edit it.  If that succeeds, try again to Share the photo.

If that does not work, create a new Photos library - just for testing.  Quit Photos, launch it again while holding down the options key.  Select to create a new library from the library chooser panel.   Can you share from this library?

    thank you

    Answering your questions:

I don't and never did synchronise my photos with iCloud

No problems with editing pictures in Photos though no chance to share - appl freezes

I have created new library in Photos though no chance to share either

I was relaunching Photos many times as well as re-starting my Mac with no change

I was considering to reinstall Photos though I understand I would have to reinstall the whole operating system (I copied Photo library to external disk already)

By the way as I keep my iphoto I just tried to share a picture by mail from i-photo

No problems - works fine, so the problem must be with Photos application
