Q: Outgoing mail server offline
I am unable to send mail and when I attempt this it goes into the Outbox. I also received an error message:
Cannot Send Mail The operation couldn't be completed. (MCMailErrorDomain error 1032.) When I go into the Mail Preferences under Account Information, the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) shows Centurylong (Offline). Any ideas how to correct this situation and be able to send mail again. iCloud mail won't send either (same mail server as above).
Earlier before all this happened, a message popped up on my home screen to enter my Centurylink password in System Preferences/Accounts. I did this but nothing happened.

Thanks Braden85. This at least helps me to narrow down issues with my mail problems. However, this does not solve my problem. I went into my email isp account using the password I thought I set for it but using my iPad instead and the password is the correct one. Mail on my mac asks for the password for my isp email address/account, but won't accept it as the correct password, which it is, so verified the correct password (on my iPad). I have an internet connection etc, so I believe it is an ElCapitan issue. During this troubleshooting exercise, I did receive an email from the outside world but could not reply back to it, so it is something with outgoing emails. I will explore the outgoing mail server info using my isp web site mail account next.
