Q: When creating book, iPhoto gets stuck "Generating project....)

It always gets stuck on 51 and 54 and I have to force quit the application.  Left it running for 3+hours, so don't think it's a timing issue.

What OS and version of iPhoto? What has changed since it worked? Are you trying to create a new empty book or are you trying to create one with photo from iPhoto?

Try creating an empty book and see if that works - if it does then drag the photos to the empty book

Have you found the solution to this? I'm having the same issue on a MacBook Air Mid 2013 running El Capitan.

This issue occurs when you click on the + icon to start a new book and then I'm stuck on Creating a project with zero progress on the bar for hours.

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?

If it doesn't then your current library is the culprit and needs to be repaired.  In that case Do the following:

1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.

    2 - apply Option #4, Rebuild Database.
