If you were using Canon's scanning app, then that will likely need an update to work in El Capitan.

Oct 12, 2015 9:59 AM in response to eagleye7by Barney-15E,You likely need to talk to Canon. They don't provide an Image Capture Architecture (ICA) driver to work natively with the OS, so you will need to ask them why their driver doesn't work.
Or, you can wait around to see if someone that owns the same type of MFP has already asked Canon and repeats the answer here for you.

Oct 12, 2015 5:31 PM in response to eagleye7by jlparke,I just went to Canon support page. They have both a driver and software for El Capitan and the Pixma Mg7120. I downloaded both and my scanner is now up and running as always.

Mar 30, 2016 12:27 PM in response to eagleye7by Inormandroy,JUST GOT THIS RESPONSE FROM CANON RE: NOT BEING ABLE TO SCAN FROM MG7120 TOUCH SCREEN (LOUSY ANSWER):
Thank you for contacting Canon product support in regards to your PIXMA MG7120. I would like to explain the scanning capabilities in OS 10.11.
Due to changes in the OS 10.11 scanning system, the buttons on the scanner will no longer respond to an El Capitan Mac.
If you have El Capitan on your computer, you will have to scan directly from the Mac using our IJ Scan Utility program. This program can be found in the Canon Utilities folder in Applications.
