Feb 14, 2016 7:47 AM in response to haoleboy96789by haoleboy96789,★Helpfulden.thed, It may have helped. i restarted the machine again. i was able to get the machine to go to Updates page. the cursor began working. i fear that this iMac may be on its last legs. i have backed up my files.

You are welcome! Sometimes all it takes is a small speck of lint or a hair to foul up the mouse's optical sensor.
i fear that this iMac may be on its last legs.
