Feb 14, 2016 6:56 AM in response to 12211by Bob Timmons,AirPort Utility would not be needed on a PC unless you were trying to change the stored network settings on a Time Capsule. If it has been previously set up and configured, AirPort Utility is really only needed on one device to administer the Time Capsule.
What is it that you are trying to do?
The other issue here is that even if you do need to have AirPort Utility installed on a PC, the most recent version of AirPort Utility for Windows has not been updated by Apple since Windows 7, so it is not likely to work on a Windows 10 machine. I don't have a PC here to test, but maybe one of the Windows guys will see this post and help us out.

Feb 14, 2016 8:21 AM in response to Bob Timmonsby 12211,Dear Bob,
Very many thanks for your reply.
We are a mac and PC household. I bought a Time Capsule 3TB and can administer it from the mac, which I can easily back up also.
I was running WD SmartWare on my PCs. It didn't recognise the Time Machine so I bought Bvckup 2 last night. Unfortunately that won't recognise the Time Machine either. What I seek is a way my pcs can see the Time Machine, so I can back them up to it.
Many thanks,
Hugh

Feb 14, 2016 8:34 AM in response to 12211by Bob Timmons,AirPort Utility will not do anything to help you, even if you can install it on the PC.
You need backup software for the PC that will recognize a network drive......like the Time Capsule. The software that you have been trying to use will only work if you have a USB hard drive connected directly to your PC.
Frankly, it is much, much easier for the PC to back up if the hard drive is connected directly to the PC, as a USB drive would be.
I'm not recommending that you attempt back up the PC to the Time Capsule, but if you want to try anyway, take a look at the following software which is capable of backing up a PC to a network drive.

Many thanks again. I looked at both, but decided on the one I mentioned. Leave it with me, I'll take it up with them, and assuming they can sort me out, I'll post their reply.
Many thanks,
Hugh

Feb 14, 2016 8:54 AM in response to 12211by Bob Timmons,Sorry, but nothing in the information about Backup 2 that I can find indicates that it will back up to a network drive. If it can, then the support folks will have to tell you how to set up the software to do that.

Many thanks. It identified my WD network drive, no problem. Their forum contains 3 possible solutions for time machine, but they are all above my pay grade/level of ability. I've asked for a simple solution, if there is one. I'll let you know what they say...
Thanks

Feb 14, 2016 11:37 AM in response to 12211by 12211,Bob,
In their support forum, under Network Share and Mapped Drive Access, they say solution 1 will work, if I can achieve it. If I can't they offer a refund.
Thanks for your help. Hope all's well in Texas. All good here in Dublin!
Best,
Hugh

Feb 14, 2016 11:46 AM in response to 12211by Tesserax,Try the following:
- Settings > System > Apps & features
- Select Bonjour Print Service
- Select Modify > Repair > Finish

Feb 14, 2016 12:01 PM in response to Tesseraxby 12211,I have Bonjour, but only option is to uninstall. No sign of Bonjour print services on pc.

Feb 14, 2016 12:40 PM in response to 12211by Tesserax,You basically have two choices here:
- Install Bonjour for Windows. The Bonjour Print Service option should now appear in the Apps & features option.
- Uninstall Bonjour. I'm assuming that you upgraded to Windows 10 and this may have been a "left-over" from an earlier Windows installation.

Feb 14, 2016 3:14 PM in response to 12211by Tesserax,I had a chance to try this myself and found that Bonjour for Windows is NOT required ... but won't hurt if installed.
What I did to duplicate (& resolve) this issue was the following:
- Move or delete the following file from the C:\Windows\System32 folder: dnssd.dll (Note: This is the Bonjour Client Library and is required by the AirPort Utility. If this file is missing would be the main reason you are getting the error message. However, even if is present, it may not be properly registered in the Windows Registry. That is, as far as Windows is concerned, it doesn't exist.)
- Download the AirPort for Windows installer. (Note: As Bob has mentioned this utility has not been updated since Windows 7. It will run on Win7, Win8, Win8.1, & Win10 but it will not work with the latest 802.11ac AirPort base stations. It should be fine with the 802.11n models.)
- Run the installer using "Run as administrator" privileges. (Note: If you get the option to Repair or Uninstall, choose the Uninstall option. Allow the uninstall process to complete. The Bonjour application should now be missing in the Apps & features listing.)
- If you didn't get the Repair/Uninstall dialog window, then let the installer install AirPort for Windows in its default folder.
- You should now be able to run the AirPort utility without any "missing DLL" error messages.

Feb 14, 2016 3:18 PM in response to Tesseraxby 12211,Many thanks all.
My Time Machine is 802.11ac.
What I have decided to do, before I purchase any backup software, is to contact the seller and ask them to confirm it will meet my need. I'm waiting responses from a few. I'll let you know how I get on.
Thanks,
Hugh

Feb 23, 2016 1:24 AM in response to 12211by 12211,Hi All,
I downloaded AirPort Utility, and that allowed me to see and access my Apple Time Machine from my Microsoft Surface (and other Window's pc's). Genie 9 did allow me to do a back up to the Apple storage device, from my pc. However, I ultimately chose to use their cloud storage service Zoolz (www.zoolz.com). One of the features of Zoolz is that you can set it up to back up to the Apple drive while berforming a cloud based back up.
Thanks again for all the helpful suggestions.
Hugh
