Q: Apple ***** Imessage

I suddenly can't add my number to my iPad for iMessage. Why did Apple take something really neat and TOTALLY MESS IT UP? Soooooooooooo frustrating.

iPad mini 3 Wi-Fi, Cellular, iOS 9.2

Apple has not messed anything up in this regard.

IIt's not working. Apple erased the field that previously allowed me to input my phone number on my iPad. It's vanished.

Did you follow these instructions in the link that sberman provided:

If your phone number is missing on your iPad or iPod touch
Sign out of iMessage and FaceTime on all of your iOS devices:
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Go to Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Sign back in to iMessage and FaceTime on all of your iOS devices:
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap Use your Apple ID for iMessage. Then sign back in with your Apple ID.
Go to Settings > FaceTime. Tap Use your Apple ID for FaceTime. Then sign back in with your Apple ID.
