Feb 15, 2016 7:23 AM in response to Thanks Appleby Kenichi Watanabe,You can download songs from other sources (such as Amazon's digital music store) as long the song files do not use a DRM (copy protection) scheme, and the song files must be in an audio format iTunes can play (such as MP3). You can also import songs into iTunes from music CDs you own. And you can buy songs from the iTunes Store; they are not free (except for some "free songs of the week").
iTunes is used to load songs onto iPod shuffle, from your iTunes library.
There is a streaming subscription service called Apple Music. iPods (except iPod touch) cannot use Apple Music, because they do not have an Internet connection. iPod touch is an iOS device (like iPhone and iPad), with Internet over Wi-Fi.
