Q: My external optical drive won't work in Windows 7 (using iMac Bootcamp)
I recently just partitioned my 2012 iMac with Windows 7. As my iMac doesn't have an internal disc drive I am borrowing my sister's LG external optical drive (which works perfectly fine in her laptop).
My problem is that that the drive won't show up at all. When I plug it in or put a disc in (I've even tried the install disc the optical drive came with) the drive makes a brief whirring noise before seemingly giving up. Nothing shows up on the screen or within My Computer.
I suspect that a certain driver didn't get installed but I don't know how, what, or why.
I've tried (but failed):
1. Configuring the drive within control panels troubleshooting section. It tried to install the SB Bus Driver (whatever that is) but failed.
2. Tried plugging into different USB ports (I've tested and they all work with other USB things!)
3. Restarting the computer.
4. Tried the Fixer software your download directly from Microsoft.com.
NOTE: I'm doing all this on the Windows side.
Any more suggestions or tips?
