Feb 16, 2016 8:45 AM in response to laziestby ChrisJ4203,It would help tremendously if you were to indicate what happens when you try to backup. Are you seeing an error message? What troubleshooting have you tried?

Feb 16, 2016 8:48 AM in response to ChrisJ4203by laziest,It starts to back up, then says, "Backup failed." I'm trying it again now so can confirm again soon.

Feb 16, 2016 9:01 AM in response to laziestby Csound1,How much space is left on your iCloud account and is the backup smaller than that?
-
Feb 16, 2016 9:07 AM in response to laziestby ChrisJ4203,Make sure you try all of the troubleshooting steps. The failure can be due to any number of things. As Csound1 said, it could be a space issue, or it could be an issue with your Wi-Fi network. Try all the steps. I've also found at times when testing iCloud backups, that restarting or resetting the phone can help as well.

Feb 16, 2016 9:14 AM in response to Csound1by laziest,Oh, there's plenty of room. Just to make sure that wasn't an issue, I upgraded to 200GB storage-- I have a 16GB phone, and my Mac mail takes up maybe 30GB.

Feb 16, 2016 9:16 AM in response to ChrisJ4203by laziest,I've restarted the phone but I must admit I'm nervous about resetting it.

Feb 16, 2016 9:18 AM in response to laziestby ChrisJ4203,A reset does not affect your data at all. You are thinking of a restore. A reset is accomplished by holding the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. It will reboot the device. Kind of like rebooting your computer, and will many times fix little "glitches" in operations.

Feb 16, 2016 9:19 AM in response to ChrisJ4203by laziest,Oh sorry-- yes, I have indeed reset the phone. (I thought that was restarting!)

Feb 16, 2016 9:21 AM in response to laziestby ChrisJ4203,Nope, restarting is just powering off/on, although they now are terming a reset as a Force Restart. Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Feb 16, 2016 1:02 PM in response to ChrisJ4203by laziest,Okay, so this latest attempt at backing up has just failed. The blue bar didn't get very far along, and it kept recalculating how long the backup would take-- from 7 hours to 8 hours to 36 hours (that was the last one I noticed). And now it just says, "The last backup could not be completed."

Feb 16, 2016 3:02 PM in response to laziestby ChrisJ4203,That issue with time sounds like a connection issue. What kind of speed are you experiencing with your Wi-Fi network? Have you tried this on another Wi-Fi network? Is the device plugged into power when you are trying this backup? It is almost as if you are dropping your Wi-Fi, or it is just running out of bandwidth.

Feb 16, 2016 4:33 PM in response to ChrisJ4203by laziest,Well, I have Time Warner, so I'm paying for 300mbps, but it's actually more like 17mbps. (My iPhone can't get the 5G network, which reaches a "high" of 85mbps.) Is that speed a problem? I've tried to back up outside my home, but I don't know if the wifi was any better. And yes, the phone is always plugged in when I'm attempting to back up.
