Q: What do i do after replacing i-pod motherboard?

I have replaced the motherboard of my daughter's  I-Pod 160GB Gen 7 and when I switch it on the screen is totally grey. I suspect that I have to download an operating programme. However my PC does not recognise the I-Pod to allow me to access it. When I connected the old board (replaced due to battery connector becoming detached) the screen displays " battery charging please wait".

How do I get my PC to recognise that my I-Pod with new motherboard has connected?

iPod classic, Windows 10

Are you sure the "new" motherboard is all ok?

Try putting it into DFU mode: Plug it into your computer. Hold down the power and select buttons together for 12 seconds. There will need to be some charge in the battery. See if the computer recognises it then.

The iPod's onboard software is on the iPod's hard drive.  If there was nothing wrong with the hard drive, and you put it back, it should work. You should confirm the connector between the iPod's logic board and hard drive is connected properly, and is not damaged.

If the iPod does not show the Apple logo on its screen when it powers up, try doing a Reset (restart)

If that does not help, see if you can put the iPod into Disk Mode

If it goes into Disk Mode, run iTunes on your computer and connect iPod.  If iTunes picks it up, iTunes may prompt you to do a Restore with a message about "recovery."  If you're OK with erasing the iPod's hard drive, tell iTunes to proceed with Restore.

Thanks a lot, I will try reseating the cable between the hard drive and board. Disk mode seems straightforward. Thanks for the info guys. I will let you know if it worked.
