Q: iMac USB joystick not working in El Capitan. It did work in Yosemite.

I am running the flight simulator "X-Plane" version 10.42 on my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) with 4 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB Ram, AMD Radeon R9 M290X 2048 MB. The OS is Mac OS X 10.11.1. Macintosh HD is Apple supplied 500 GB SSD.

On Mavericks, and Yosemite my Joystick, Saitek Cyborg 3D Gold worked with X-Plane 10 without any problems but since upgrading to El Capitan the Joystick is completely non-functional.

Joystick and Gamepad Tester.app, Joystick Show.app, and HID Explorer.app do not "see" the Joystick either.

I suspect that one or more USB drivers that should be installed in Yosemite are not installed or are corrupted.

Things I have tried to no avail:

     Reinstalled El Capitan.

Run X-Plane off of external HD.

Log on to iMac as new user.

     Tried using "USB Overdrive".

     Reinstalled X-Plane.

Tried using other Mac with El Capitan.

Used different USB ports on iMac and powered USB 2 Hub.

My conclusion is that either my joystick failed at the time of El Capitan Beta program. (Not likely) or there is something wrong with El Capitan OS.

Any help would be appreciated.

Noel

I have the same problem on a new mid 2015 MacBook Pro. In a check of the System Report the Mac does see the USB connection to the Saitek Cyborg 3D Gold joystick. But, X-Plane 10.42r1 does not see the joystick. Hope someone is coming up with a solution.

Update - today I purchased a Thrustmaster joystick and both the computer and X-Plane recognize the joystick. It is too basic for my needs so it will be returned. Have contacted Josh at Saitek who hopefully can find answers as to why we are now having issues with the Cyborg 3D Gold USB joystick which worked so well in the past.
