Q: 29.97 fps - 24 fps - best protocol?

Creating a DCP for a particular festival.  The venue does interlop, not non-interlop, meaning the film has to be 24 fps.  The original frame rate of the film is 29.97 fps.

I've heard rumours that one has to convert the 29.97 to 23.98 BEFORE converting it to 24 fps.

I'm wondering what the proper protocol is to get the best results?

29.97 - 23.98 - 24?  (And if so, how?)

29.97 straight to 24? (And what to watch out for in the minutiae of the settings?)

All ears,

Never heard of such a thing.  Can't fathom why you'd go from one frame rate, to another, just to get to yet another.  Go from 29.97 to 24.  You can always just run tests and see what the results are.

Yeah.  I'm thinking so too.  This was data that came from the people who are pitching the DCP's, and charging for the various conversions.  I'm always suspicious about post prod outlets that remind me of car mechanics messing with the ignorance of non-mechanical clients.
