Oct 16, 2012 8:36 AM in response to Leyahlisciousby Andrew Start,Ok, I think I've figured this out.
When you set up the 1and1 email account on the iphone or ipad it asks for username and password for the outgoing mailer server. But it says this is "optional". It is not. (I think this is new since the version of iOS I originally set up my email accounts on)
The thing is, once an email account is set up on the iPhone or iPad there is no option to go in and change these particular settings. So at a glance all the settings appear to be normal.
The only way to rectify the problem is to delete the email account on the iPhone or iPad and re-setup the account, this time ensuring the "optional" username and password are input.
This worked for me anyway. I hope it helps,
Andrew

Feb 17, 2016 8:48 AM in response to Leyahlisciousby Appcore2012,Hi,
I had the same problem and went to settings, outgoing server and changed the server port number from 25 to 587 and now it works perfectly.
587 is an alternative outgoing server port - i checked the 1and1 website http://help.1and1.co.uk/mail-c65093/1and1-mail-basic-c40987/getting-started-c435 21/set-up-e-mail-clients-using-imap-or-pop3-a619070.html
