    Hi Mark,

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

If I understand correctly, there's an issue with playlists no longer appearing on your iPod classic. One of the easiest troubleshooting steps that you can try, which is likely to resolve this issue, is resetting your iPod as shown here:

Learn how to reset your iPod - Apple Support

If the issue persists, you can rule out any software issues by restoring your iPod as described in the article below.

Use iTunes on your Mac or PC to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support

    Ciao.

Are you using automatic syncing to load songs on the iPod (iTunes keeps iPod and iTunes library "in sync"), or the Manually manage method (drag and drop songs on iPod in iTunes)?  To check, select the iPod in iTunes (click its device button on horizontal bar) to show its settings screen in iTunes window.  Along left side (in the sidebar), under Settings, click Music.  To the right, the iPod's Music settings screen is shown.  Without changing the current setting, find the checkbox for Sync Music.  Is it checked or not checked?

Apparently, I think something completely different to everyone else!

If the option "Playlists" itself is not on your Main Menu, perhaps you have de-selected it in the iPod's settings.

Look on the iPod itself (not connected to iTunes): from the iPod's Main Menu scroll down and go into Settings/Main Menu. You will now see a list of items under the heading Music. Second on the list is Playlists: it should have a tick (check mark) to the right. If not, scroll down to Playlists and press the Select (centre) button to turn on the tick.

Return to the Main Menu. The Playlists option should now be on your Main Menu.

To put Playlists option onto the iPod's Music Menu, go back into Settings, then into Music Menu and put the tick on next to Playlists there as well.

Or have I misunderstood the issue?

Well done my friend!! I have no idea how I could have "unchecked" playlist but somehow I did. Followed your instructions and fixed the problem in 30 seconds! I now officially owe you a beer. Thanks so much for taking the time to help. My i-Pod classic is loaded with 16,000 blues, R&B and soul songs. My favorite watering hole lets me hook up my i-pod to their stereo from time to time but my i-pod simply on shuffle is a bit too eclectic for the general public. I created a couple of playlists just for the occasion and was very surprised to find that option missing from my i-pod the last time I was invited to do this. Now I can continue my life long mission of educating the unwashed masses about real music! Thanks again.

Good luck with that, you'll need it.

    Glad we sorted the problem....
