Q: I can't play my downloaded Apple Music albums?

A couple days ago, I decided to sign up for the Apple Music 3 month free trial.  I then went on and downloaded about 4 albums, so that I wouldn't have to have Internet connection to listen to them.  However, the next evening, when I tried to play them without Internet connection, it gave me an error message.  Unfortunately, I didn't think to take a screenshot of it at the time.  When I got home, I tried playing my songs with Internet, and they worked fine.  I re-downloaded them just in case.  The next morning, I tried playing the songs with Wifi turned off, and got the message again:

I exited the app, turned Wifi on, and tried playing them again.  They played fine.  I then turned Wifi off and tried playing them again, and they played perfectly!  No problems at all!  The best I can figure is, the app wants me to "check in" with its servers every 12 hours or so.  Anyone else have this problem?  I'm using an iPad Mini 1 with iOS 9.2.1.  Thanks!

    Hi Iantastic,

Sorry to hear you are having issues playing your Apple Music offline.  If you get this prompt again, I would suggest you follow the prompt and disable iCloud Music Library as the prompt suggests.  Then restart your iPhone, enable iCloud Music Library again and try to download a different album or a few songs.  Let us know if the issue persists after trying this.

    Using the new Music app

    Listen offline

You can download songs—including songs that you bought from the iTunes Store, added from Apple Music, or that were matched or uploaded with Apple Music or iTunes Match—to your device to listen to when you're not connected to the Internet:

    1. Tap the More Options icon  more options next to the item.
    2. Tap the download icon  to the right of the song's artwork at the top of the More Options menu, or tap Download from the bottom of the menu.
    3. The song downloads to your device.

To see music that you downloaded to listen to offline, go to My Music. Under the Recently Added section, tap the category selector (Artists, Albums, etc.). Only Downloaded Music is at the bottom of the category list. When this setting is on, My Music shows only songs that you downloaded to your device. Turn this setting off to see all of your music, including music stored in iCloud Music Library.

When you view an item that you've downloaded to your device, you'll see an offline icon offline indicator near it, but its exact location varies. For example:

    • If you download an entire album or playlist, the offline icon appears when you're looking at the album or playlist in My Music. You'll also see an offline icon when you view a compilation, but not when you view specific genres, artists, or composers.
    • If you download a song, the offline icon appears to the right of each song title.
    • If you download songs from an album, but not the entire album, the offline icon appears to the right of just the songs that you downloaded.

    Take care,
