This issue can also be fixed by letting the battery in the iPhone drain completely, and then reboot the phone.  This is a good option if you have no backups (which is bad news if you don't have backups...you should start using backups immediately!!)

Its just incredible the stupidity of people. Why would you want to set your date to 1970 anyway?

Maybe she will learn something from this - that just because you read it on the Internet it doesn't mean its true.

Fortunately, I was only drinking seltzer when I read that. Easy cleanup.

Guys i have the same problem and instead of telling people how stupid it is why dont you come up with a solution which is needed and not just keep referring to the article which states a waiting game or hope apple will fix. My nearest apple store is over an hour away and isn't worth the trip if they will not help!

Apple will fix it, and will maintain your warranty, post-warranty coverage. Unfortuantely, your put yourself at the disadvantage of the hour drive, so complaining is not necessary. Others report that DFU will work, but it has not been 100%. Your best bet is Apple, especially since you mention in your other post that you do not want anyone else messing with your phone.

Agreed, it's ridiculous how high and mighty these "volunteers" are on this forum.  I would never treat a customer this way.  Yes sometimes they do stupid things, but it is not right to belittle them.  Customer service does not seem to be a strong point on these forums.

It helps to help yourself as well. Please see http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/repair/ . Having AppleCare can also help. Mail-in options also exist for anyone unable/unwilling to reach the nearest Apple store/AASP. In some cases, BestBuy (or similar) may also be able to assist.

    Get repairs for your iPhone

Send in for repair. Start a service request online or by calling Apple Support and we'll send a box right away to collect your iPhone. You can then arrange to ship it to an Apple Repair Center at your convenience. We'll deliver your iPhone back to you in 3-5 business days.

Bring in for repair. Make an appointment at an Apple Store or one of our many Apple authorized service locations. We'll try to fix your iPhone during your visit. In more complex cases, we might need to send it to an Apple Repair Center. If we do, your iPhone will be ready for pickup in 3-5 business days. If your iPhone is under warranty, many of our locations can offer you a loaner while your iPhone is being repaired.

Be aware that you are a customer of Apple, not of any of these volunteers. They provide a 'free' service, unlike Apple employees. You can always ignore replies that you dislike.

That would be because we aren't "customer service" representatives. We are users, exactly like you. Not sure why you have volunteers in quotation marks. That's what we are. We do not work for Apple.

The Terms of Use to which you agreed when you joined state that Apple can remove anything at any time for any reason. If they remove a post for cause, they will send you an email explaining why. If your post was removed because it was a reply to a post that was removed, you will not get a reply.

I know. I went to the apple store with my bricked phone suggesting another solution (taking battery out and putting it back in) instead of completely replacing my phone and they said that this method does not work. Meanwhile my friend did this and his phone worked fine afterwards. I guess apple just doesn't want anyone playing around with the hardware.
